Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in Sighet, Romania. In 1944 all Jews from the town were moved to Auschwitz, where his mother
and younger sister were killed. Wiesel was then sent to Buchenwald, where his father was killed. In 1945, having miraculously
survived, Wiesel was liberated. After the war Wiesel settled in France.
Wiesel was a Rumanian-born American writer. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1986. The basis for
Wiesel's work is his own experiences and personal testament of the destruction of Jews during World War II. Wiesel taught
at Boston University were he was known as Andrew Mellon Professor of the Humanities.
I believe the Elie Wiesel had a very tough life. After losing most of his family due to the Holocaust he was still
a successful teacher and writer. Along with the rest of the Holocaust survivors Wiesel has had a very difficult life. He had
to continue living his life without his family, which is one thing that I could not do.
